The secret to being creative is…
Creativity isn’t a gift. I wasn’t born with anything special. I don’t feel like i’m more special than anyone else.
So then what is the secret to being creative? The answer is - Reps. Repetition is what sets us apart and makes us excel at anything. While i’ve been getting reps in with my creative side, other people would have been putting reps in, in other areas of life.
And who says creativity is just drawing or creating digital pieces of art, like video? I had a personal trainer once who told me that he loved what he did because he could use all his knowledge to create a tailored program for all his clients.
He loved being creative.
You may think there is some special formula to being creative. But what you may not realise is you are probably creative in other ways. It could be cooking or creating friendships. Maybe you’re good at creating opportunities for other people or redesigning a space in your house to look brand new.
Whatever it is. Whatever you are good at, has a form of creativity attached to it. When I was a young boy, I would dream about having all the material things that other kids had. I didn’t have the fancy shoes - so I would draw them. I didn’t have the latest Pokémon cards - so I would create my own versions. And when I got older, I couldn’t afford tattoos - so I would design them for other people.
Creating was just something I found natural only because I had been doing it for so long. I had been getting the reps in for many years to the point it became part of my identity.
But I’m not special. I never have been. I have just put the reps in. Every day.
Twice on Sundays.
